I officially don’t have internet at the hotel anymore, ever since my 30 day pass (cost me HKD500) expired yesterday. So I’m basically gmail-less, seeing as to how office browsers don’t allow me access there, no matter how much I’ve tried (proxies, etc.).

Anyway, I have to give a presentation tommorrow, which is why, at 12:35am on a Wednesday morning, I am still in the office. Kinda okay la…I’ve been going home at about 7:30pm everyday for almost the entire span of this rotation.

I also managed to have the chance to talk to 2 very interesting and informational guys, who I suppose took pity on this lowly, lonely intern slogging all over her work so late into the night.

 Dude A is a middle office dude and basically told me all the gossip in the office, good bosses, bad bosses, good success stories, bad failure stories, etc.. as well as corporate culture in other banks (he’s been middle office in several). This guy knows his stuff.

 Dude B is very inspirational. He’s 26 (He asked me to guess, I said 27 and he said he was sad I think he looks old) but anyway, he’s already a Vice President, and if all things go well for him, in another year, he’ll be a Director. At 27. How. .. ok.. words escape me. Had a really good chat with him too! Such a nice guy.

Word of advice for those of you going into Banking:

It really doesn’t matter what you do, what division  you’re at, how good you really are…

it’s really all about your boss. You need someone who will stick up for you, and pass your name up for promotions, people who will help you plan your career and help you along the way.

All about the boss. And how much he likes you.

So choose a desk with someone who likes you. You’ll go much further, much faster that way.

Oh, also.  I’m really glad none of you can see pictures I’m tagged on facebook, because they are really atrociously hideous. I shall be generous and show you one of them today, because I think I look like one of those fat MCA politicians on TV possibly discussing how wonderful the Chinese have it in Malaysia today. Provoked thought inspired by this.

 I love how I’ve got a semi sneer there and Aaron looks totally like my bitch secretary/follower.
